The St Bernard dog breed has become synonymous with the Sobels Winery. All were champions, winning numerous trophies and ribbons at various dog shows, including the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
1st was "PLONK", who died after contracting bone cancer in 1997.
2ND was "BACCHUS", who always seemed to make an entrance when visitors arrived. He was born late August 1997 and died in August 2002. His father was a champion American show dog and mother won best of breed and champion bitch at the Royal Sydney Show.
3rd was "JOE". A full brother of Bacchus, (from the same litter), he lived at the winery, greeting visitors from December 2002. Joe was the star of the "Peter Pan" movie made in Queensland. He died in October, 2007.
4th was "GUS" a nephew of Bacchus and Joe. We had Gus for over 2 years, he came as an older dog with a few problems and was transformed into a wonderfully lovable dog and a very loyal one as well, who loved being here as he was very reluctant to go anywhere. Unfortunately we lost Gus on New Years Eve 2009.
Number 5 is here now, we have little Archie who is nearly 3 months old and extremely mischievious but the most beautifull puppy you have ever seen and growing every minute of the day. He is a full bred St Bernard and his mother was Gus's granddaughter. Shortly he will be attending puppy pre-school and hopefully will stop chewing everything is sight.
